Are you also tired of the chaos in your kitchen? By keeping things organized, you’ll prevent food from going bad—and you’ll find it easier to locate the ingredients you’re looking for. Follow my tips, and you’ll see that the chaos will be a thing of the past.

Milk that expired several weeks ago. Vegetables that have started to rot. Cold cuts that should have been thrown out long ago. Does this sound familiar?
Maybe you’re the kind of person who buys an extra pack of butter at the store—only to realize when you get home that you already have two packs hiding in the back of the fridge.
This isn’t entirely uncommon. But how do you avoid the chaos?

The answer is: storage boxes.

Here's how to think about storage boxes:

By storing everything from vegetables to dry goods and jars in storage boxes and trays, you’ll have a better overview and easier access. With these tips, you’ll also be able to spot best-by dates well in advance.

Vegetables: Choose a storage container with a drainage tray at the bottom. By storing fruits and vegetables in a container with a tray that allows moisture and liquid to drain away, they stay fresh longer and you reduce the risk of rot spreading to nearby fruits and vegetables.

Jars: Use a jar turner! They come in several sizes and have a brilliant feature that keeps the turner stable on the refrigerator shelf while still allowing you to rotate it. You no longer have to reach all the way to the back of the fridge among all the glass jars and risk knocking over both soda cans and salsa jars on the way out. Place all the jars on the rotator, and you’ll just need to give it a simple twist to access them.

Dry goods: Transfer your rolled oats or breakfast cereal into containers with tight-fitting lids to keep moisture out and make it easier to stack and store your dry goods.

Label your containers: Clear labels on each container will give you an even better overview when you're in a rush while cooking.
